Meet the winner of the iPad
Recently, Educaedu held a raffle for an iPad and the winner was Isabel Cristina Pais Antonio, from Cerquilho City, Sao Paulo, Brazil. For us at Educaedu, the delivery of this award was filled with emotion because soon after the winner received the prize, she sent us the following story:
“Today I received my iPad and want to thank you from the heart for this wonderful gift. Let me tell you briefly what happened to me earlier this year: I have an 18 year old daughter, and in February my daughter and I were at home when three thieves entered our home. My daughter was sleeping and was taken out of bed with a gun in her face. We were taken hostage by these men for over an hour while they stole everything and put it in our car. They took everything: the laptop, digital cameras, and mobile phones among other things. My daughter was awaiting the results of her university entrance, and begged in vain to be able to keep her laptop so she could see the results on the USP website. They took everything, but thank God they did not do anything to us. Now she is studying a BA in chemistry from the “Universidade Federal de São Carlos” (UFSCar), and was also accepted at other important educational institutions such as UNIFESP, UNESP, and she missed out on a place at the USP by only three people, so thank you very much for this gift, which I will give to her. “

How to Become a Successful Online Student

Distance learning has many advantages: it’s convenient, flexible and nowadays has a wide variety of available programs. Online studies are often more affordable than traditional modes of study and can work around your job or career. However, there are also several drawbacks to studying online. With online studies the student has less (if any) face-time with professor. In addition, there is limited social interactions with other students and no campus atmosphere nor collective learning. Many students get behind in the their studies because it takes a lot of discipline to keep up without the reminders from professors and students. If you are taking an online course or interested in taking an online course, have at look at these tips below for a better chance at having a sucessful experience:
Self -Motivation and Self-Discipline It is up to you to motivate yourself and stay on track at all times. Be aware of all deadlines, complete all assignments and stay up to date with all class work and news.
Time Management Consider dedicating specific days of the week, and times of the day, to complete particular tasks. Determine what time of day you think would be best to dedicate to your online class. Stick with schedules that you impose on yourself to meet the course deadlines.
Solve Potential Technical Problems Before They Pop Up The computer will become your primary learning tool. And although you don’t need to be a computer whiz, you do need to have some basic technology skills to succeed. Technical problems can be a major source of frustration so it is best to have some basic computer skills before you start. Find out which programs and software will be needed to start the class beforehand so that you don´t get behind.
Learn the e-learning System Become familiar with e-learning systems as quickly as possible so that you can more efficiently concentrate on the course content.
Reach Out to Professors and Classmates You might feel isolated without face-to-face interactions with professors and peers. Use virtual classrooms, chat rooms, Skype and interactive presentations to establish successful cooperation with other students taking the course.
Communicate in Writing You should feel comfortable in expressing yourself in writing as almost all correspondence is in written form.
Remember It’s All Up to You! Becoming a successful online student is not an impossible task. It only requires adjusting to a different style and way of learning.

Connecting Students and Universities
The education industry today depends more and more on the World Wide Web, from online courses to virtual encyclopedias and discussion forums, education and the internet go hand in hand. The increase in the number of people using the internet to find courses is so significant, that today the best option for schools to communicate with students is by joining the online world.
It is within this context that Educaedu has launched an online tool that facilitates communication between universities and the users of the web. The newly launched Centre/School Profile option allows educational institutions to create an account, upload content and manage their course offerings, which are published in the Educaedu portal. This permits the centres to have greater autonomy with the ability to modify and update the information about their programs as often as they like, which in turn keeps the site up-to-date and makes the connection with students even more direct. Any type of higher education centre can upload their courses, from private institutes to universities and technical colleges.

Students can browse through programs that they are interested in studying, and if they have any questions they can email the centre with a form that appears on every course.
The Centre/School Profile option is available on all of the Educaedu websites, including our English countries Australia, the UK, the US and Canada. For all other countries, click here.

Educaedu Russia – Поздравляю (Congratulations in Russian)

Flickr Creative Commons - neiljs
Educaedu is proud to present our latest addition – Educaedu Russia.
With over 1100 programs and courses from more than 100 different schools, our new website has a wide variety of options for anyone looking to study in Russia. We would like to give a big Поздравляю (congratulations) to Aigul, the Content Manager for Russia, who single handedly organized and created all the content for the website. Thanks also goes out to all the programmers who had to cypher through Cyrillic to get the website up and running.
So you don’t know a lot about Russian culture? Well, it is difficult to make generalizations due to the variety of people living there and the shear size of the country. It stretches over both Europe and Asia and covers an area of 6,595,600 square miles. It is the largest country in the world (by land mass), covering almost twice the territory of the next largest country, Canada. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russia has officially been known as the Russian Federation. Within its borders, which stretch from Poland in the West all the way over to within several miles of Japan in the East, Russia is home to an astounding variety of people. There are citizens who are ethnically Russian, Tatars, Ukrainians, Bashkirs, Chuvashes, Chechens, and Armenians. There are also many Germans, Azerbaijanis, Inuit, and Uzbeks. What is pretty amazing is that all these people with all these varying backgrounds have one official language – Russian.
We welcome Russia to the Educaedu family and hope that it facilitates the ease in which students can find what they want to study in Russia and abroad.

Meet the Programming Team
Some of the most important people of any great company are those behind the scences, those who do not always get the acolades they deserve. Educaedu would be nothing without our programmers and that is why we would like to highlight them now. They are the blood that runs through Educaedu’s veins and the glue that keeps it together.

Diego, Daniel, Pedro, Pablo, Matias, Martin, Gastón, and Federico (Fede, for short).
Some of the responsibilities of the team include; software development, search engine optimization (SEO), database administration (DBA), systems administration, quality assurance and project manager.
The team´s educational background varies from electronic engineering and information engineering to systems analyst and… artistic drawing?
When asked about what the team does outside of work many answered that they like to bike, read, play the guitar and SALSA DANCE. One answered that after work he goes home and continues programming.
You know who you are, shame on you.
I must say though, that the end of the year company dinner gave us a whole new perception of the programming department. Those guys know how to party.
Pedro’s favorite movie: Aliens
Fede’s favorite TV show: Myth Busters
Matias’ ideal made-up course: A “How To” Telekinesis Course
Daniel’s favorite book: The Count of Monte Cristo
